Solid ectopic cervical thymus in an infant: A case report

Introduction. Ectopic cervical thymus tissue results from incomplete migration of the thymic primordia during embryogenesis. It is asymptomatic in most cases, however, 10% patients there are different kind symptoms. Case report. A 4-month-old boy was referred to our clinic, for evaluation a growing large neck mass on right side that has been present since birth. Physical examination revealed painless, soft, moderately mobile, and irregular round solid localized side, front sternocleidomastoid muscle, below parotid gland, above carotid lodge. The 40 x 32 x15 mm diameter. Following clinical, ultrasonographic magnetic resonance imaging findings, we suspected it an ectopic thymus. Surgical excision done. pathology report confirmed presence with Hassall?s corpuscles. postoperative course unremarkable wound healed well. Furthermore, immunological, echography 6-month follow-up unremarkable. Conclusion. congenital rare anomaly, however should be considered differential diagnosis masses.
